The PNZ Eco-Hub
Central data acquisition for environmentally relevant topics. A research project with Fraunhofer IPA.
Background
Sustainable business opens up new business opportunities for companies and is increasingly becoming a decisive competitive factor. Among other things, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving the circularity of products and increasing resource efficiency must be addressed by companies in a timely manner if a sustainable transformation of the economy is to be achieved.
Project description
To this end, the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA in Stuttgart, together with 18 project partners, has set up a project to analyze and structure the central collection and processing of environmental data on a pilot basis for various industries. PNZ is represented for the chemical industry.
We expect from the project in particular:
- A coherent and timely identification and analysis of the ongoing environmental impact along the value chain (procurement, production, downstream, lifecycle).
- Existing and new types of environmental data are to be recorded and combined with IT support in such a way that they enable strategic improvements to be made in short reaction cycles.
Project goals
Our project goals are in particular:
- The systematic and continuous collection and recording of all environmental impact factors (especially those with direct relevance for low emissions and CO2 footprint) with the help of a central environmental data management system.
- The supplementation of the data basis by new permanent, sensor-based recording of the most important flow data of water (especially waste water quality) and air (especially process exhaust air).
Duration
Project start: July 2021
End of project: June 2024
